The Passion Behind the Flavors
Martha Arias Salazar
Founder of Tamales El Kora, Martha Arias Salazar specializes in cuisine from Nayarit, Mexico. After the pandemic forced the closure of her previous location, Martha teamed up with Mercedes to create Mercadito, the newest culinary gem on the Westside. Mercadito offers a delightful array of street-food-inspired snacks and desserts from various regions of Mexico, including the first-ever Marquesitas in Grand Rapids.
Mercedes Lopez Duran
As the founder and owner of El Granjero Mexican Grill, Mercedes Lopez Duran brings a wealth of experience and passion for Mexican cuisine. Originally from Mexico City, Mercedes moved to Grand Rapids in 2005. In 2007, she revitalized Tacos El Ganadero on Bridge Street, transforming it into El Granjero with a fresh look and menu featuring dishes like Tlacoyos, Nopales, and El Molcajete. El Granjero has garnered numerous accolades, including the 2022 Neighborhood Business Award by Steepletown and the 2024 Brilliant Entrepreneur of the Year by West Michigan Woman Magazine.
